The Glass Mazu Temple was built to share Mazu’s kindness and connect historic Lukang with the modern Changhua Coastal Industrial Park. It brings together glassmaking, technology, nature, culture, and local tourism. The Jade Emperor gave the temple its official name, “Taiwan Husheng Temple.” It is the first Glass Mazu Temple in Taiwan and the world. The temple has a strong steel frame. Its roof and walls are made of safe, insulated glass. Inside, visitors can see beautiful wood carvings, stone carvings, and many kinds of glass art. The building can withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake and Force 17 winds. Construction began in 2007. On March 31, 2012, then-President Ma Ying-jeou attended the opening ceremony. After the Bagua Sky Lantern was lit, the temple officially opened to visitors. The glassmaking team also created a Glass Mazu statue, a glass palanquin, and a glass Mazu boat. They hope the temple will become a world-famous landmark that shares the beauty of Taiwan with the world.
